DVDL Driving Practice Test

The requirement for vehicles on the road to have pneumatic tyres is based on their design and functionality. Pneumatic tyres, which are inflatable rubber tyres, provide several advantages that are critical for safe and efficient driving. They are designed to absorb shocks from the road, provide better traction and handling, and enhance comfort for passengers by cushioning the ride. These tyres also enable vehicles to have better fuel efficiency due to their ability to maintain optimal contact with the road surface.

The other choices do not adequately meet the requirements or characteristics necessary for vehicle operation on public roads. Solid rubber tyres, while used in certain applications like forklifts or some specialized vehicles, do not offer the same level of cushioning and performance as pneumatic tyres for general road use. Road-resistant tyres are not a standard category; instead, the performance of tyres is commonly assessed based on factors like tread design and materials. Retreaded tyres, while they can be reused and are sometimes permitted, are not a universal requirement and can present safety concerns if not properly maintained. Therefore, pneumatic tyres are the standard and most widely accepted choice for vehicles on the road.
